Regional Centres are responsible for promoting the ODL system in the State/region, as well as the establishment, development, maintenance, and monitoring of LSCs, with the help and collaboration of the relevant State Governments. Regional Centres are also in charge of delivering programmes and providing student support services, as well as organising staff development programmes.

Academic, administrative, and promotional activities are the three main functions of a Regional Centre. The Regional Centres are in charge of promoting the Open University system, as well as developing, maintaining, and monitoring Study Centres and Student Support Services, as well as organising regional staff development programmes for training coordinators, counsellors, and other functionaries.
Regional Centres are the University's sub-offices for all practical reasons, as well as the University's resource centre in their respective regions.
